Cartier Timepieces
The Cartier brand was created by Louis-Francois Cartier. The first timepiece created by Cartier was the Santos watch, which was designed upon request by the Brazilian Aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who wanted a watch that he could use when flying. The Santos became publicly available in 1911. The Tank timepiece is equally famous. It was designed in 1917 in tribute of the World War I Allied Tank commanders who defended France.
The deployant folding clasp was created by Cartier in 1910. It has since been patented. Cartier created a genuinely water resistant watch in 1933, heeding to the request of the Pasha of Marrakech.
