Seiko Timepieces
Seiko was founded in 1881 in Tokyo, Japan, where it is still headquartered. In addition to manufacturing watches, the company also manufactures clocks, semiconductors, optical glass materials, eyeglasses, jewelry, and mechatronics devices. “Seiko” has multiple meanings– it can be translated from Japanese to English as “success”, “minute” or “exquisite”.
Seiko has been the official timekeeper of numerous sporting events across the globe, including the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games in the United States, the 1994 Lillehammer Olympic Winter Games in Norway, the 1991 IAAF world Championships in Athletics in Japan, the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and the 1978 World Cup in Argentina.
