Victorinox Swiss Army Watches has its roots with the Victorinox knife manufacturer in the town of Ibach, Switzerland. Founded in 1891, they delivered their knives to the Swiss Army; their cross in a shield emblem has been used since 1909. That same year the founder’s mother Victoria died and the company was named after her. In 1921 the “inox” was added at the end meaning stainless steel in French.
The Officer’s Knife became popular in World War II with American soldiers, they coined the term Swiss Army knife as they had problems pronouncing “offiziermesser” as it was known. The knife can be found in New York City’s Museum of Modern Art permanent collection as well as with NASA explorations.

The brand has been manufacturing watches since 1989 for the American market. In 2007 they expanded to the global marketplace. They mostly produce affordable watches but do offer a high end line that includes their Alpnach and Ambassador watches. They release a few limited edition designs every year.
